Methodology
How we compare UK sports betting brands
A plain-English walk-through of the process behind every bookmaker listed on UK Prime Bets.
Our six-step review
- 1
Confirm the licence
We check the operator’s entry on the UK Gambling Commission’s public register. Without a current remote betting licence, the brand does not enter our shortlist.
- 2
Open an account at our cost
Editorial accounts are funded by us, not by the operator. This keeps us on the same side as the reader during registration, verification and the first deposit flow.
- 3
Read the free bet terms before opting in
We read the welcome offer in full — qualifying bet, eligible markets, minimum odds, wagering on any bonus and any payment restrictions — and note where the operator buries anything important.
- 4
Check the odds and markets
We compare margins on a selection of Premier League, horse racing and other popular UK markets, and assess the range of sports and in-play availability.
- 5
Test cashout and the live interface
We check cashout availability on popular markets, how in-play odds refresh speed under a live match, and whether the bet slip is usable when events move quickly.
- 6
Score and second-read
The reviewer drafts the score and the editorial note. A second editor reads everything before it goes live. Disagreements are resolved by re-reading the operator’s own pages.
What we deliberately ignore
- Headline free-bet size on its own, without reading the qualifying conditions.
- Marketing language such as “best odds”, “exclusive” or “risk-free”.
- Unverifiable review counts and fictional player testimonials.
- Promotional offers that change between the page load and the registration screen.
